Research Skills Big6 - Step 3. Location and Access

The purpose of this step is to locate sources (intellectually and physically) and to find information within sources.

Questions:

  • Where can I find the sources related to water crisis in Hong Kong?

  • How can I retrieve information from the source? 

  • Who can help me if I don't know how to access information on line?

 

 

You will

  • search for information and retrieve information from various sources

  • read to answer research questions

  • evaluate sources for relevancy, accuracy & currency

 

Solution 1 – Searching in the libraries (Hard Copy)

  • Use online catalogue of libraries.

  • Go to the library where you can find the resources you need.

  • Ask teacher librarian or library assistant if you have any problems.

 

 

Solution 2 – Searching on Internet (Soft Copy)

  • Choose an appropriate searching engine

  • Make use of appropriate Boolean.

  • Check the reliability of the website information before using that information. 

Choose among the many resources and determine which one(s) to use.
