Research Skills Big6 - Step 6. Evaluation

This is the skills of how to judge the effectiveness and efficiency of your group work.

Questions:

  • Did I do what was required?

  • Did I complete each of the Big6 Stages efficiently? 

 

You will

  • recognize the critical role of assessment, including both, a process and a final product

  • reflect on learning

  • make adjustments based on feedback

Questions of judging your effectiveness

  • Did your work show all what you have learned? If not, which parts should be improved? Why?

  • Did you complete every requirement of the tasks? If not, which requirements did you not complete? Why?

  • Did you give credit to all the sources you used in your work? If not, why?

  • Did you find all the information you needed?  If not, which information did you not find?

  • Did you use all the research skills effectively?  If not, which skills do you think you need to improve?

 

Questions of judging your efficiency

  • Did you finish each part of works on schedule? If not, which parts were you not able to finish on schedule? Why?

  • Are there any discrepancies between the final outcome and what you expected? What should be done to solve the problem?

  • Did you finish the tasks in the best possible manner with the least amount of time and effort? Do you think there are rooms for improvement?  If yes, how to improve?

Characteristics of a Good Action Plan

Questions

  • Is it clearly linked to all identified strategies and goals?

  • Does it provide a logical sequence of activities?

  • Does it identify who will be responsible for each activity?

  • What information did you need to complete the task?

  • How many searching engines did you use?

  • How well did you use different searching engines?

  • Have your information seeking strategies improved after completing this project?

 

Task 3 Location and Access

  • How long does it take for you to find the information you need?

  • Could you find all the information you need?

  • Have your research skills improved after completing this project?

 

Task 4 Use of Information

  • How well did you engage (e.g. read, hear, view, touch) the information?

  • How well did you extract relevant information?

 

Task 5 Synthesis

  • How well did you organize information from multiple sources?

  • Which tools did you use for information synthesis?

  • How well did you use the tools?’

  • How well did you present the information?’

 

Task 6 Evaluation

  • How well did you judge your effectiveness of this project?

  • How well did you judge your efficiency of this project?
